KIA Summer Drawings 2014: Week 5

Drawings from the fifth of an eight-week open model session at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Michigan. This model, while challenging to depict due to her long limbs and small hands, was really lovely to draw.

The first is an approximately two-minute gesture with charcoal pencil, on 12" x 18" newsprint. I feel like I captured the stance pretty nicely, of her leaning forward.

The rest are charcoal pencil against a ground of willow charcoal on 14" x 17" Strathmore paper, 20 to 40 minute poses.

KIA Summer Drawings 2014: Week 4

Drawings from the fourth of an eight-week open model session at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Michigan.

I'm getting a lot of practice drawing men during these sessions! I decided to shift to using slightly smaller paper this week, as well as exaggerating some of the model's features in a couple drawings. All are charcoal pencil against a ground of willow charcoal on approximately 14" x 17" Strathmore paper.
